In Bali, fresh coconut water is a popular beverage in many warungs (cafes). Laurie likes to use a spoon to eat the coconut meat inside. Sometimes we would ask them to make the hole in the top larger for us.

At first we thought that the coconuts in this photo were awaiting customers. But then we saw that these were the empties.

We later learned that someone will eventually come by and collect these empty coconuts and recycle them.

Few things are wasted in Bali. The coconut shells could be ground up for use in gardens. The Balinese also make coconut oil, coconut syrup, and coconut rum from the coconut palm.
