Tucked away in a tiny valley surrounded by a forest of pine trees, the Tonto Natural Bridge has been in the making for thousands of years and is believed to be the largest natural travertine
bridge in the world.

It stands 183 feet high over a 400-foot long tunnel that measures 150 feet at it’s widest point. We were able to view it from various points around the Tonto Natural Bridge State Park and then followed a steep trail all the way down to the river that runs through the bottom of the canyon and under this magnificent natural wonder.

Considered to be the last public commission of architect Frank Lloyd Wright the Grady Gammage Memorial Auditorium is on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. The structure, which was named after the ASU president from 1933-1959, measures 300 feet long by 250 feet wide and is 80 feet high. Fifty concrete columns support the round roof with its pattern of interlocking circles.

Pictured in the bottom photo is one of the twin “flying buttress” pedestrian ramps which extend 200 feet from the north and east sides of the auditorium and connect the building to the parking lot.

Chihuly Blue Star at Desert Bontanical Garden

Dale Chihuly, an American glass sculptor whose works are considered unique to the field of blown glass, creates giant, astounding glass sculptures. This one is part of a temporary installation at the Desert Botanical Garden near Phoenix, Arizona.

We feel very lucky that we were house sitting nearby. We spent the day goggling at the wonderful sculptures and the magnificent gardens.
