Wat Rong Khun, more well-known as the White Temple, is a contemporary Buddhist temple in Chiang Rai, Thailand that is spectacular to behold.

It was designed by Chalermchai Kositpipat in 1996, in white because the architect and internationally known painter and sculptor felt that the usual gold of Buddhist temples is too indicative of greed and the love of money. Its construction is ongoing.

Inside are statues of the Buddha and beautiful, detailed murals of the enlightenment story. Included in the mural are depictions of modern day superheroes such as Superman, Spiderman, Neo, and Kung Fu Panda. No one is permitted to take photographs inside the temple.

The artist is telling the world that these heroes can not save us and that only inner peace can bring about peace in our world.
