We had the opportunity to return to the pueblo magico, Patzcuaro, Michoacan, Mexico for a lovely house sit.
We arrived early in December and had a wonderful time watching the daily transformation of the Plaza Grande. We had heard that the plaza would be decorated to represent all of the villages around the lake area and their unique contribution to the arts and daily sustenance of the region.Â
We did not know what to expect, as we saw these very tall, woven figures appearing around the square. There was a wooden manger structure, gradually populated with animals and tall humans. There was an elephant and a camel in one corner of the plaza. One day we saw water being added to the fountain. Soon, lovely woven birds were floating in the water, some with fish in their mouths.Â
People arrived with shimmering garb and dressed some of the figures. Carolers stood with their books open by the manger. Sheep and a shepherdess appeared in another corner. There were folks dressed in woven woolen ponchos and big woven hats.Â

And to top off the display, live demos of the local Purepecha folk dancing in their traditional garb and masks, their feet in big wooden sandals slapping in time as they danced and tapped their canes in rhythm, then passed a hat for a few pesos.Â
