Located in the mountains of Central Bali in the Bedugul region, Lake Beratan is about an hour and one-half drive from Ubud on narrow, steep mountain roads. It is considered a holy place by the Balinese and is a major water source for all of Bali.
There are dozens of villages en route to this region, all with a wide array of shops (warungs), including many selling vegetables and fruits grown nearby.
