Like other toucans, the chestnut-mandibled toucan is brightly colored and has the distinctive large bill. Unlike most birds, the male and female are similarly marked. The male at about 56 cm long is typically larger than the, female which is typically 52 cm long.
This pair of toucans appear in a tree on the property where we are staying in Ojochal, Costa Rica each evening at about the same time. We enjoy watching them hop from branch to branch.
