The homeowners in Western Australia left us a car so that we could get around. In the town of Kendenup where we are staying there is only one store that is also the post office, coffee shop, liquor store, grocery store (very minimal) and local meeting place. We need the car to drive the 25 minutes to Mt. Barker where there is a real grocery store and maybe a dozen other businesses.
We also drive about 45 minutes to the larger town of Albany where there are more services. We both had to learn to drive this tiny, manual transmission auto on the left side of the road. The roads are quite narrow, just one lane in either direction, and in most places the speed limit is 110 kilometers per hour, which is 70 mph. It can get a little harrowing when the big trucks zoom by.
Another problem is that the turn signal lever is on the right side of the steering wheel. I’ve turned on the windshield wipers instead of the signal dozens of times, which can be quite comical.
