Bathing in the Holy Waters of Tirta Empul

Bathers at Temple Tirta Empul

The temple Tirta Empul is one of Bali’s most revered water temples. Here people with both physical and emotional afflictions can come to make offerings, pray and bathe.

Each of the twelve fountains is dedicated to a specific need and there are posted signs so that folks can locate the correct one.

This breathtaking, serene pool of holy water emanates from an underground spring and feeds the bathing pools of this water temple.

Gazing into this still pool, you can see the water bubbling up from underneath the sand and see the mass of ferns growing just beneath the surface. It is forbidden for people to enter this holy water. Elsewhere in the temple, this same water flows through fountains into ritual bathing pools.
